New posting on our "Social Initiatives" series. Today showcasing One eat One. One eat One was founded in April 2012 by a group of people with and without disabilities joined by the passion for music and visual arts. The band is the first one in Europe to combine electronic music and people with disabilities. Check their interview below:
1. What is One Eat One?
One eat One is the first band in the world that combines people with and without disabilities and produces electronic/dance music.
One eat One music is a fusion between an electronic and a live band component which are intertwined between a “reef” of guitar and minimal rhythmic without undervalue the melodic part.
2 . How this idea came up?
The band was born in April 2012 and was moved by the passion for music, visual arts and installations.
This project was born by an idea of Michele Cheli, an educator. It's based on music therapy and visual-spatial arts and was developed with the desire not to create a music laboratory, but to actually form an electronic music band, in which every component has got the chance to fully express their passion, fantasy and taste for music.
Our beliefs are based on truth and music. The truth to face your own limits, our fears and difficulties with determination and awareness, without ostentation or denial. Everyone has some peculiarities and it's from accepting ourselves for what we are that we will evolve.
Everyday the band evolves through the difficulties and has the will, just like every other band, to create good music and to give pleasure to its audience.
So music is what keeps this band together and gives the chance to discover ourselves, to create new relationships and to be be truly independent no matter what disabilities we may have.
The band is now 5 years old and has no intentions to stop.
3. How many people are part of this project?
In this project there are three boy's with three different disabilities. One has down syndrome, another one is visually impaired and one has cognitive delay. They are all actively operating and playing an instrument.
One eat One is also a not-for-profit organisation which supports educational activities for people with and without disabilities in order to spread its ideals and passions.
