New posting! Today we are showcasing Eric Lupton, a business owner from Delray Beach, Florida. Check out what he shared with us.
Q: Tell us a little bit about your disability.
A: I have cerebral palsy. It was caused by an accident while I was being born. I use a power wheelchair, and I need help transferring, dressing, and bathing, among other things. I'm able to feed myself and type.
Q: What is your business and how it started?
A: Life Saver Pool Fence Systems manufactures removable mesh pool safety fencing to keep young children from accessing the pool. It was started in 1987 by my father, and I took it over from him in 2002.
Q: Being someone with a disability influenced the way you manage your business?
A: Having cerebral palsy has made me a creative problem solver and patient on larger issues. I'm not as easily discouraged, and I think my disability is a factor in that.
Q: Do you think the business community still has misconceptions towards those with disabilities?
A: I think people in general still have misconceptions towards people with disabilities, so that extends to the business community as well.
Q: Would you have any advice to someone that is disabled and is struggling to find a job or build a business?
A: I believe that entrepreneurship is the best path for anyone with a disability. One of the most important things for any entrepreneur is focusing on your strengths and delegating your weaknesses, and this is something that anyone with a disability needs to do.
